Why Do We Keep Patients in the Hospital for 4 Days?

Staying in the hospital for 4 days after a mommy makeover procedure might seem a bit long, but rest assured that we ensure your comfort by choosing a hospital equipped to meet all your needs. The reason for this duration is rooted in our care for patients travelling from abroad for their surgeries. Often, these patients come to a completely new country where they might not have anyone familiar or available to assist them.

Our goal is to provide professional support throughout the rehabilitation process. This includes helping patients walk, attend to their personal needs such as using the bathroom and showering, and ensuring a stress-free environment to aid recovery. Additionally, keeping the patient under continuous medical supervision allows us to manage medications properly, encourage mobility, and monitor their recovery through necessary tests. This comprehensive approach ensures safety and supports a smoother healing process.

Why do we perform lower extremity venous Doppler ultrasound (USG) for every patient before discharge?

Pulmonary thromboembolism, though rare, is a serious complication that can occur after combined surgical procedures like abdominoplasty or "mommy makeovers." Prolonged surgery and limited mobility during the recovery period can cause blood to pool in the deep veins of the legs, increasing the risk of clot formation. While some clots may remain harmless, others can dislodge and travel through the bloodstream, potentially blocking blood flow to the lungs or other vital organs, resulting in life-threatening pulmonary thromboembolism.

To mitigate this risk, we perform a lower extremity Doppler ultrasound on every abdominoplasty and "mommy makeover" patient prior to discharge. This quick, non-invasive test uses ultrasound technology to examine the deep veins for potential clots. If a clot is detected, we can take immediate action to prevent it from leading to an embolism.

We also prioritize proactive care to minimize clot formation. Encouraging patients to begin moving as soon as they are able plays a critical role in promoting healthy blood flow. For all patients at bed rest, we utilize intermittent pneumatic compression devices to improve circulation. Additionally, when there are no contraindications, we administer blood-thinning medications to further reduce the risk of clotting until patients regain full mobility.

These combined measures ensure the highest standard of safety, helping our patients recover smoothly and with peace of mind.

Aftercare

After your Mommy Makeover surgery, our team will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to support a smooth recovery. After discharge to the hotel, Dr. Gokhan Beyhan and his team are available 24/7 by phone. We also perform daily visits to patients at the hotel and bring them to the hospital for regular checkups. Additionally, you’ll have access to our patient portal for easy communication with Dr. Beyhan and his team at any time.
